How to Upgrade from Windows Server 2016 Standard to Datacenter

Note: Upgrading is only possible from Windows Server Standard to Datacenter. Reverting to Standard from Datacenter is not supported.

Note: Your data, including documents and installed applications, will remain intact during the upgrade. However, we advise backing up your data to protect against unexpected disruptions.

Proceed with the following steps:

Type 'CMD' in the search box on your taskbar. When the Command Prompt appears, right-click it and choose Run as administrator.

Enter the command: dism /online /set-edition:serverdatacenter /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /accepteula. Substitute the Xs with your actual product key and press Enter.

Once the activation is complete, reboot your server to start using Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.
