- Choose About this Mac to access your device specifications.
Note: Macs with Intel chips will display 'Processor,' whereas Macs with Apple chips will show 'Chip.'
Proceed with the following steps:
Ensure all macOS updates are installed.
Before installing Windows, update your Mac by installing all available macOS updates.
- Navigate to System Preferences from the Apple menu.
- Click Software Update.
- If your system is up to date, a notification will confirm no updates are available.
The system will automatically check for updates. Allow a few moments for this process. If updates are found, select Update now and follow the prompts to download and install them.
Should your Mac restart post-update, reopen Software Update to complete any remaining installations.
Preparing your Mac for Windows installation
The Boot Camp Assistant helps prepare your device by creating a new partition named BOOTCAMP and downloading necessary support software.
If using a laptop, ensure it is connected to a power source before proceeding.
- Insert a USB drive and launch Boot Camp Assistant from Applications > Utilities.
- At the introduction screen, select Continue.
- Check all required options and click Continue.
- Choose the Windows 8 .iso file previously downloaded and the USB as the destination for the installer file.
- Adjust the partition size by dragging the central divider according to your needs and select Install.
- Your Mac will then restart to begin Windows installation.
Note: You cannot modify the partition size once set.
