To determine if your Mac can run Windows 8.1, perform these steps:

  1. Access the Apple menu at the top of your screen.
  2. Choose About this Mac to see your system details.
Note: On Intel-based PCs, the processor is listed. On Macs, you’ll see the type of chip used.

Follow these instructions:

Update Your Software

Note: Ensure all macOS software is updated before installing Windows.
  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Select Software Update.
  3. If your system is current, a notification will state that no updates are available.
Note: The system automatically checks for updates. Please wait momentarily for the process to complete. If updates are found, select Update Now and follow the prompts to install.
Note: If your Mac reboots post-update, revisit Software Update to complete any pending installations.
