Installing Windows 11 on a Mac Using Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide
Important: Mac models without Boot Camp include (MacBook Air M1, 2020 / MacBook Pro 13', M1, 2020 / Mac mini M1, 2020 / iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021. Also, any Apple device equipped with an M1 chip).
To determine if your Mac supports Windows 11 installation, perform these steps:
- Click the Apple logo at the top of your screen.
- Choose About this Mac to see your system's specifications.
Note: Intel-based Macs show 'Processor,' while Apple silicon models display 'Chip.'
Proceed with the following:
Verify software update availability.
Reminder: Ensure all macOS updates are installed before setting up Windows.
- Access the Apple menu on the top left, and select System Preferences.
- Tap on Software Update.
- If your system is current, a notification will confirm there are no new updates.
The system checks for updates automatically. Allow a few seconds for this process. If updates are found, select Update Now to download and install.
If a restart occurs post-update, reopen Software Update to apply any remaining updates.
Preparing your Mac for Windows.
Boot Camp Assistant will ready your Mac by creating a new partition for Windows, named BOOTCAMP, and downloading necessary support software.
Note: If using a portable Mac, connect to power before proceeding.
- Plug your USB into the Mac and use the spotlight search (magnifying glass at the top left) to find Boot Camp.
- Select Boot Camp Assistant and proceed with the on-screen directions.
- On the opening screen, click Continue, choose your settings, and then Continue again.
- Pick your downloaded Windows 11 .iso file and the USB for the install media.
- Adjust the slider to allocate desired space for Windows and click Install.
- Your Mac will reboot and initiate Windows 11 installation.
Note: The chosen partition size is final and cannot be adjusted later.

Installing Boot Camp on Windows
Post Windows installation, the compatible Boot Camp drivers for your Mac will start installing.
- Adhere to the instructions in the Boot Camp setup within Windows.
- Upon completion, click Finish.
- After your device reboots, follow any prompts from subsequent installation programs.
Important: Avoid pressing Cancel during the installation.
If a warning about software certification appears, select Continue.
Installation dialogs may briefly pop up; respond to any device software prompts by clicking Install. Check for any obscured windows if progress stalls.
Note: If Boot Camp doesn’t auto-install, you may need to install it manually.
