Installing Windows 10 on Mac Using Bootcamp: A Complete Guide
Note: M1-based Apple devices (e.g., MacBook Air M1, 2020, MacBook Pro 13' M1, 2020, Mac mini M1, 2020, iMac 24-inch M1, 2021) do not support Boot Camp.
To determine if your Mac supports Windows 10 installation, perform these steps:
- Click the Apple logo in the menu bar at the top.
- Choose About this Mac to see your system's specifications.
Note: Macs with Intel CPUs display 'Processor,' whereas Macs with Apple chips show 'Chip.'
Follow these steps to prepare for installation:
Update Your Mac
Note: Ensure all macOS updates are installed before setting up Windows.
- Navigate to the Apple menu on the top left and select System Preferences.
- Click Software Update.
- If your system is up to date, a notification will confirm this.
Note: The system checks for updates automatically. If updates are available, select Update now and follow the prompts to install.
Note: After an update, if your Mac restarts, check Software Update again for any remaining updates.
Setting Up Your Mac for Windows
Boot Camp Assistant helps partition your Mac's hard drive and downloads necessary support software.
Note: Ensure your Mac is connected to power if it's portable.
- Insert a USB drive, search for Boot Camp using the search icon in the top left corner.
- Launch Boot Camp Assistant from Applications > Utilities.
- At the introduction screen, click Continue.
- Select options and proceed by clicking Continue.
- Choose the Windows 10 .iso file and the USB drive to create the installer.
- Adjust the partition size by moving the center slider and click Install.
- Your Mac will reboot to start the Windows installation.

Installing Boot Camp on Windows

- Complete the installation by clicking Finish.

Note: Avoid cancelling during the installation process.
